Big Brother (Week 2)

Hugh Heffner tweeted "go Kara."
CBS's Big Brother just got real this week.  Contestants have settled in, and they are starting to play the game.  This season is especially interesting, because four former players are joining the cast, but not as players.  They are in the house to coach the new contestants.  Up until Thursday night's episode, the coaches controlled the game.  However, "HOH" Willie proved that he is unpredictable, and in a suicidal outburst encouraged players to play their own game.  In all of the chaos, Playboy's playmate of the year, Kara Monaco was evicted.  The show ended with Frank winning the "HOH competition, and a new twist was added to the game.  The winner of the coaches competition will have the option of saving one of their players, or trading one of their players.  We will see what happens Sunday night.

Love and Hip Hop Atlanta

Lil Scrappy
Vh1 has blessed us with another season of Love and Hip Hop. This time however, we get to meet characters from the southern capital Atlanta, GA. Although this season has been extremely entertaining from the first episode, it is not a true depiction of southern culture. It is the same formula that VH1 uses for all of their reality series. They find the most stereotypical "characters" they can find, and we tune in just to see how much more ridiculous participants are willing to act from week to week in order to get camera time.  Producers and participants have come out and said that the show is not scripted.  That may be true, but there is definitely some acting going on.

Joseline Hernandez dancing for Stevie J
The storyline of the show revolves around a group of gorgeous women who, for reasons I still can not understand, spend most of their time fighting over men. The sad part is, these men are no better than everyday pimps. Music producer Stevie J, for example, moved his long time girlfriend and "baby mama" in to a house further from the city in order to keep her away from his many mistresses. When confronted about his infidelities he basically laughs in her face. Now when Stevie J's main whore, ex stripper turned artist Joseline Hernandez, finds herself pregnant with his child, he simply pimped her all the way to the abortion clinic.

Lil Scrappy, who I expected to be the most interesting storyline, turned out to be womanizing mama's boy. He decided to leave his child's mother again,  for an industry groupie "Bucky" from VH1's Flavor of Love. Being a southern girl myself, the show is embarrassing. Most of the people sound uneducated and ignorant. It is disappointing because Atlanta has many educated, bright, and talented people of color. I guess VH1 feels ignorance is more profitable. The sad thing is, they are probably right.

"The Bad Girls Club: Mexico"

Oxygen's hit reality series "The Bad Girls Club" is one of our guiltiest pleasures.  The show uses a classic reality television format.  Seven of the most ridiculous twenty-something year old women are selected to live in a mansion, as we watch them drink, party, fight, drink some more, and most of all embarrass their families.  Season 9 kicked off on Monday July 9,2012, and it looks like the girls are as "bad" as ever.

You would think that being lucky enough to live in a mansion in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico would inspire these chicks to do something productive with their fifteen minutes of fame.  However, like previous "bad girls," they chose to let the alcohol speak for them.

I do not know the pressure of living in a house with seven strangers while being filmed 24/7, so it is hard to imagine how I would behave.  However, I am disgusted by cast member Rima.  In episode 2, we find that she is not only an amateur stripper, but a mother of a small child as well.  When asked about her need to take of her clothes while dancing at a club, she confessed that this is something she does all the time in her hometown of Chicago.

I am not sure if this "local celebrity" understands that she is on a national television program, that will probably be re aired for years to come.  This means that her child will be forced to deal with all of the consequences, and embarrassment of her of her actions on the show.  This local idiot would have been better off getting a job at a strip club where she could at least get paid for taking off her clothes, and her son would not forced to watch and hear about it for years to come.
