Lil Scrappy |
Vh1 has blessed us with another season of
Love and Hip Hop. This time however, we get to meet characters from the southern capital Atlanta, GA. Although this season has been extremely entertaining from the first episode, it is not a true depiction of southern culture. It is the same formula that VH1 uses for all of their reality series. They find the most stereotypical "characters" they can find, and we tune in just to see how much more ridiculous participants are willing to act from week to week in order to get camera time. Producers and participants have come out and said that the show is not scripted. That may be true, but there is definitely some acting going on.

Joseline Hernandez dancing for Stevie J |
The storyline of the show revolves around a group of gorgeous women who, for reasons I still can not understand, spend most of their time fighting over men. The sad part is, these men are no better than everyday pimps. Music producer Stevie J, for example, moved his long time girlfriend and "baby mama" in to a house further from the city in order to keep her away from his many mistresses. When confronted about his infidelities he basically laughs in her face. Now when Stevie J's main whore, ex stripper turned artist Joseline Hernandez, finds herself pregnant with his child, he simply pimped her all the way to the abortion clinic.
Lil Scrappy, who I expected to be the most interesting storyline, turned out to be womanizing mama's boy. He decided to leave his child's mother again, for an industry groupie "Bucky" from VH1's
Flavor of Love. Being a southern girl myself, the show is embarrassing. Most of the people sound uneducated and ignorant. It is disappointing because Atlanta has many educated, bright, and talented people of color. I guess VH1 feels ignorance is more profitable. The sad thing is, they are probably right.
